Soft Skills

Soft Skills in Our Everyday Life

Morphoses- Soft Skills - Every day life

In today’s fast-paced world, academic excellence alone isn’t enough to ensure a bright future for our children. What sets successful kids apart are those often overlooked skills — soft skills!

Ever noticed how some kids bounce back from failures while others give up easily? That’s where soft skills come into play. Take resilience, for example; the capacity to withstand or to recover quickly from difficulties. It’s like a child’s superpower against setbacks. Remember when your little one fell while learning to ride a bike but got up and tried again? That’s resilience in action. Let’s take a closer look at everyday scenarios where soft skills shine. Picture a family dinner where your child actively listens to everyone’s stories and responds with genuine interest — that’s active listening.

Or imagine a playdate where they collaborate with others to build a towering LEGO structure — that’s teamwork in action. Or maybe, think about the last time your child faced a challenge, like learning to tie their shoelaces. Did they manage to learn it on their own? That’s problem-solving, a soft skill that’s like a secret weapon against life’s obstacles. These skills are all around us, from empathy during a sibling dispute to leadership when organizing a game with friends. So, yes, soft skills are everywhere!

How can you, as a parent, identify the soft skills that your child acquires or needs to develop? Soft skills can be identified easily if you pay attention to the details. You will ask me: ‘’How can I facilitate soft skills for my children?’’ and I’m here to tell you! Be a role model! Make sure that first of all, you acquire the soft skills that you want to see in your children. If, when in an argument, you start mishandling the situation, you give the power to the children to do the same. Of course, giving the space to your children to take initiative, is also really important. Your children need to feel trusted by you. And even if they fail or succeed you need to celebrate their effort. In short, it’s just four steps:

  1. Lead by Example: Demonstrate empathy, resilience, and teamwork in your own life.
  2. Develop Skills Yourself: Improve your soft skills to guide your child effectively.
  3. Encourage Initiative: Let them make decisions and take on responsibilities.
  4. Celebrate Effort: Praise their attempts, emphasizing learning over success.
