MOOCs are the new BOOKs.

Massive, open, online courses (MOOCs) are changing the future of education forever. Shocking statement, right?

It’s not a secret that the young audience is showing a tremendous turn to online classes in order to gain credentials or advance their human skills (Impey & Formanek, 2021). Why are MOOCs becoming so popular these days? Since they are free online courses available for anyone to enroll, you can learn, while…

  • Wearing your cozy clothes and flip-flops.
  • Enjoying a hot coffee in your favorite cup, the one you bought during that trip to Amsterdam.
  • Sitting in your custom-made chair, the one that prevents your back from hurting again — reminding you that you are getting older.

With MOOCS, you can always take full advantage of a break. How? Simply put your favorite music super loud and dance your heart out (sorry neighbors!). After the quick dance break, you can continue keeping your class’ notes. Not a fan of notes? Big deal; sessions are recorded and are available after class.

Last, but not least, you can participate in whichever class you want, literally anywhere in the world. Some of the most amazing classrooms are just a click (okay, and a strong internet connection) away.

Perhaps, despite all the aforementioned pros, you had never been tempted to give a MOOC a try.

And then, there came COVID-19.

It’s the end of the world as we know it: COVID-19 edition

During the last two years, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we experienced significant changes in our daily life: lockdowns, restrictions, social distancing, work/school from home, mandatory masks and so many more. It is no surprise that leaders of public and private educational institutions have been searching for alternative methods for students and teachers to continue with their lessons online (OECD, 2020).

Even before the pandemic, the direction of education was pointing toward online learning, which has proved to help anyone to become more resilient against the challenges they might face (Gaulee et al., 2020). Now with the pandemic, the democratizing potential of MOOCs might yet be realized (Impey & Formanek, 2021).

But, wait! There is a challenge here! Can you guess what is it?

E-fun, not ew-fun.

Can we create a digital platform that can actually be as interactive and fun- learning as a live class can get? Can we create the atmosphere, get the feeling, and provide a unique relationship between the instructor and each child? In simple terms, can we have the “full package” experience, via an online platform?

Actually, yes, we can. Welcome to the Morphoses’ vision.
